Life Got You in a Guillotine Choke?

I learned a lesson while rolling the other day that I wanted to share with you.

And it relates very much to life.

(There are a lot of insights that can be seen in Jiu Jitsu, if you just look with a bigger picture view)

So I was rolling with my professor and I got caught in a DEEP Guillotine Choke.

Anyone who has been there, knows that’s not a good situation to be in,

But I remembered this specific strategy to defend against it:

Stick your chin out & up (all the way to the mat if you’re in their guard) until you can start the escape.

So I did, I stuck my chin out, kept my chin up, and I just remained calm and continued to breathe until I could fight the hands and escape.

It worked.

And after I was thinking about how relatable that is to life.

So many people reach out to me and tell me how they just feel stuck

And they just don’t know how to get out from where they are.

So here’s your answer from this lesson learned:

When you feel like life has you in a deep “Guillotine Choke”…

Just keep your chin up and breathe, until you can take the next steps to escape.

If you don’t know what the next steps are, reach out and let’s talk to see if we can work it out.

Comment below, let me know what’s going on for you right now.

P.S. – If you’re wondering why you haven’t been seeing as many of these posts lately, I’ve been giving all my attention to my clients and the OHM Online Program, and seeing great results. I know some of you we’re interested but weren’t able to make it in the first round. I like to keep the group small and focused, so if you’d like to be on the top of the list for the next round, be sure to apply here and get in early before all the spots are gone.

Why Tips & Tricks Are BS

I had some thoughts to share with you about something that I see way too often…

People going around looking for the next tip to make them healthy,

Or the next trick to get them fit,

Or an Instagram video for the next Jiu Jitsu technique,

This is so common in the modern world, especially the health & fitness realm,

I even used to do this myself, years ago.

I’d try this diet, try that workout, try this technique,

Just taking shots in the dark

Until I realized they are just BS and almost NEVER work.

Because most people don’t need a quick band-aid, what they really need is SURGERY.

If you’re 20, 30, 50 lbs or more overweight,

If you’re losing your breathe just doing simple tasks,

If you’re waking up stiff as a board (or worse, injured) more days than not,

It’s like walking around with your arm cut off and you’re asking people for a BAND-AID.

When you get one and you start seeing one less blood drop per minute, you might think it’s working,

So you keep looking for more and more band-aids until the blood is only slowly dripping out of your arm,

And then you come to accept that as “fine”, and you just go on with your daily life… with a slow loss of blood.

When if you just got the surgery, you would stop the blood loss completely AND have your arm back!

Maybe that’s too vivid image… But does that make sense?

In other words, a white belt isn’t going to become a black belt by watching YouTube videos.

Here’s the best tip you’ll ever receive:

I’ve been there, I’ve seen it all when it comes to health,

And I know true transformation doesn’t just come by accident.

Seek out an expert and do whatever it takes to get your problem taken care of now.

If you’re problem has anything to do with preventing you from being in peak health (overweight, weak cardio, always stiff or injured), then book a call and let’s talk about how you can solve this for good:

We’ll talk for about 45 mins and find out what’s really holding you back from unlocking your body and living in your peak health right now, where you really want to be, and if we’re a good fit to work together we’ll talk about how we can get you there.

Like I said, this isn’t going to be another cheap, quick, and easy band-aid. So if that’s what you want, you can keep wasting your time elsewhere. But if you’re ready to take real action, and make a real change towards unleashing your true potential now, then reach out and we’ll see if we can do that.

The Truth About Motivation

Here’s the truth…

You’re never going to feel like it,

You’re never going to have enough time,

You’re never going to have enough money,

Until you CHOOSE to.

Until you decide and take action, you won’t find the motivation.

If you continue to put off your goals, you’re never going to make it to where you want to be,

You’re going to create a habit of putting it off for the perfect time, and guess what…

There is only NOW. That’s all there ever was, and that’s all there ever will be.

Ultra spiritual, I know 🙂

But really, it’s either now or never.

So any excuse you have for not taking that next step towards your dream is really just fear.

The worst thing you can let happen to you in this life is let fear hold you back,

Hold you back from achieving that goal,

Hold you back from being who you really want to be,

Hold you back from living the life you really want to live.

If you’re stuck right now waiting for motivation, waiting for the resources, waiting for the perfect time…

But deep down you are ready to take the next step,

To step outside of your comfort zone and away from fear,

But you’re just not sure what that next step is,

Then reach out and book a call so we can put our heads together and figure it out.

Click that link to book a call and we’ll talk for about 45-mins and discover EXACTLY what’s holding you back right now from reaching that goal, from being who you know you’re meant to be, from living that life you know you’re meant to live.

Be sure to fill out the quick form after you choose your time in my calendar so we can get the most out of the call for you.

Remember: Motivation doesn’t come before action, action comes before motivation.

How to Return from the Holidays Better Than Ever

I don’t know about you, but I was glad to be back on the mats after the holidays,

I did notice something though, which inspired this post:

That some people come back better, and some people come back worse after a break,

Have you noticed this in yourself? Which one are you?

I talked with someone before rolling about how his cardio had suffered over the holidays,

I’m sure most people gained a few pounds,

And for sure some people’s skills got sloppier.

This doesn’t just apply to Jiu Jitsu either, this could be any sport/hobby/practice,

Or just your overall movement & health.

You may only notice one major area of your health & fitness suffering,

But really these affect every other part of your health, your movement, and your life.

Once your cardio goes, you can throw your technique out the window with it,

Carrying around extra weight is going to bring down your cardio levels, among many other things,

And all of these slow down your progress in life, in one way or another.

I noticed there were some key differences that will either make or break you in movement & health,

The three main things are your mindset, your foundation, and your strategy,

How you approach the situation, the base you have underneath you, and what you do to achieve the outcome that you desire,

These three things can be applied to any part of your life (and they are, whether you like it or not).

How you do anything is how you do everything.

So improving these three things in your health will improve all other areas of your life,

Your practice will be better, your career will be better, your relationships will be better,

When you do this, when you have the right mindset, the right foundation, and the right strategy,

You will be able to enjoy the holiday to the fullest, and not only will your health & your Jiu Jitsu performance NOT suffer…

It will actually be BETTER.

If you find yourself coming back worse after every holiday, after every break, taking two steps forward and one step back, over and over again, and you are ready to end that cycle and just keep moving forward, then book a call and we can talk about how you can do that:

I’ve opened up a few slots in my calendar to speak with those who are committed and coachable and ready to take action towards a better future now.

Click that link, pick a time that works for you, and fill out the form afterwords. We’ll hop on the phone for about 45 mins and get you clear on what’s keeping you stuck in that cycle of little to no progress.

If we’re a good fit to work together then we can talk about the next steps you need to take to unlock your body and free your mind, simply. It’s very simple, yes, but as with anything worth having – it’s not easy.

But really, who cares if it’s easy or not? It is WORTH IT. If you want it to be easy, then we likely aren’t a good fit.

If you are ready to make a real, lasting change towards unleashing your true potential today, then book a call and I’ll talk with you soon.

Should You Really Stretch More?

I get these questions and see statements like these, A LOT:

“What stretches should I do?” or “I think I need to stretch more”.

It’s a common misconception, to think stretching is going to solve all of your problems.

You wake up as stiff as a board the day after training,

You stand up feeling like the Tin Man,

And you think you just need to stretch away your creakiness.

But does it really make any sense? Should you really stretch more?

One of my best clients has been a yoga teacher for 20+ years so, as you can imagine, she stretches A LOT.

When she came to me she had major FLEXIBILITY but no MOBILITY.

Meaning she was able to reach the range of motions passively but had no strength, no control, there.

She would often joke how she would get blown over with the wind.

Is that what you really want when training for real life?

If you do this wrong you’re not only NOT going to rid your body of the stiffness, you’re also going to weaken your muscles,

You’ll end up wearing yourself thin, and then having “surprise” injuries, often.

If you do this right, and you move better and you move more often, you’ll have better results with less effort.

You’ll be more connected to your body, you’ll be able to understand what it’s saying, and you’ll know how to have a conversation with it that will unlock new possibilities, strengthen old connections, and prevent injury.

If this sounds like you, and you want help overcoming this stiffness and weakness once and for allbook a call with me to talk about it.

Click that link to go to my calendar and pick a time that works for you. Fill out the quick form afterwards so I can provide the most value for you on the call.

We’ll get clear on what’s keeping you stuck right now, where you want to go, and we’ll see if we’re a good fit to work together. And if we are, I’ll tell you how we can unlock your body to do that.

Talk soon,

P.S. – That client I mentioned earlier, she’s now stronger than most guys I see at the gym. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but there is something wrong with knowing that you can be better, and not doing anything about it. If you know you are not where you want to be right now, why wait to take action?

Here’s that link again.
